PACSA celebrated its 30th birthday on 14 October 2009. Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane was keynote speaker. We started with an expo where community organisations and churches exhibited their community initiatives and formed linkages with each other. Following lunch we held a prayer service in the Cathedral of the Holy Nativity as a recommitment to God’s work for justice, led by Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane and senior church leaders. We then made a public statement of this commitment by walking in a procession to the City Hall.
At the City Hall we were welcomed by Revd M.S. Khumalo from the Office of the Premier of KZN, Zweli Mkhize. We launched our new PACSA DVD with its first public screening. Archbishop Njongonkulu followed with the speech below. Professor Colin Gardner, PACSA Chairperson, introduced the new widely-acclaimed PACSA book Journeying for Justice: Stories of an Ongoing Faith-Based Struggle. His speech is on page 6.
Noisy Angels Celebrate 185 years Collective Service
8 NGOs are staging a joint exhibition at the Natal Museum for 6 months from 3/10/09 to 31/3/2010. They also shared a joint special supplement in The Witness.
NGOs involved in the display are PACSA and AFRA – both started 30 years ago; the Built Environment Support Group (BESG) – created 25 years ago; Alan Paton Centre and Struggle Archives, Thandanani Children’s Foundation, Protec, Tembal
NPOs and Churches are usually not recognised for the work they do in society. This is why PACSA decided to have an exhibition for them. This served as a networking platform and also helped them in marketing themselves in such a way that they are not easily forgotten. Before the actual exhition, a workshop was held at Project Gateway to help our community partners with creating posters, brochures, their company profile as well as how to act as an exhibitor ( what to say and how to sell yourself ).
The event was an absolute success and over 26 groups came to display, but more importantly they are now known to the public.
The Exhibition continues
Networking Opportunities: This is the ideal opportunity for churches to form partnerships with other community initiatives bringing together the valuable assets and unique attributes of each organisation and individual.
